Transitioning - Switching Schools
When I decided to attend American Intercontinental University (AIU) for the winter quarter of 2003, I was so excited about living in London and going to a new school, but at the same time I was a little nervous. With the help of my advisor at The University of Mississippi, I was able to choose my classes in London that would transfer for credit at my home University. The process was so much easier than I expected. My next step was calling my advisor at AIU to make sure I had completed everything and was ready to go abroad. My advisor at AIU was so kind and patiently answered an array of questions ranging from the application process to the bedding situations in the housing provided by AIU.
After having such an incredible time in London, I was sad to have to go back to the States. Having made so many friendships with great people from all over the world, letting go was going to be difficult. Before leaving London, I contacted my advisor at the University of Mississippi and made an appointment to meet when I returned to the States. I also made sure that AIU had the correct address at my school to send my final grades. Having those two steps completed before my trip back made things a lot easier.
My first trip back to the University of Mississippi was a little strange at first—but nothing out of the ordinary when comparing a European metropolitan city to smalltown America. My American friends and I often found each of us helping one another with readjusting, but we were all good in keeping in contact with our London flat mates on a daily basis. I am so thankful that I had the chance to study abroad and learn firsthand about the English culture.
