Study Abroad Admissions

To be eligible for admission to AIU's Study Abroad Program, you must be in good academic standing at your home institution and meet its minimum GPA requirements for study abroad. If your home institution imposes additional requirements for studying abroad, AIU will honor those requirements.

Students wishing to enroll in the AIU Study Abroad Program to pursue an international education must first complete the application process. To be considered for admission, students must fulfill the following requirements:
  • Submit a complete application form.
  • Include a non-refundable $75 application fee with your application.
  • Participate in an admissions interview arranged by an AIU Admissions Advisor.
  • Submit a Letter of Intent that briefly outlines your interest in and commitment to studying abroad.
  • Provide Proof of English Proficiency (e.g., TOEFL or other English proficiency assessment) if your first language is not English.

To be accepted into the AIU Study Abroad Program, additional items may be required. Those items include:

Official Transcript (always required)

An official transcript is required from your home institution. It can be sent separately from your application; however, final acceptance to the AIU Study Abroad Program is contingent upon receipt and review of your official transcript.

Course and Program Approvals (always required)

All courses taken at AIU must be pre-approved by your academic advisor and dean/department head. Study abroad approval from your International Office is also required to ensure that all home institution procedures have been followed. A Course Pre-Approval Form must be completed, indicating up to ten (10) course selections in order of preference to allow for scheduling flexibility. You should complete the form with the assistance of your academic advisor to ensure that you meet stated course prerequisites and to verify transfer and acceptance of credit back to your home institution. Refer to the SAP Program Guidebook for planned course offerings during your enrollment term.

Reservation Deposit (required for some, but not all programs)

A non-refundable reservation deposit of $250 is required when you submit your application for the Paris and Florence programs. This deposit reserves your space in the program selected and is applied to your tuition.

Application Procedures & Deadlines

AIU has application deadlines for internships and special programs offered in cities other than London. (Please refer to the program descriptions for details and specific application deadlines). For programs in London and Dubai, you are encouraged to submit your Course Pre-Approval Form at least six months in advance of your intended enrollment to ensure placement in the classes you have requested. If your home institution has specific deadlines regarding study abroad approvals, you must abide by those deadlines. Upon receipt of your enrollment documents (application, application fee, Letter of Intent, proof of English proficiency) you will receive a letter acknowledging your enrollment in the program along with additional items that are required prior to program acceptance. Final admission into the AIU Study Abroad Program will not be granted until all required materials are received.

Student Portal

Upon enrollment, you will be given access to our student portal. All the required documents and information you need prior to leaving for your study abroad destination are housed on this site. Once you arrive at your destination, the portal will be a valuable tool you can use to access your schedule, grades, account balance and activity, school events, school contact information and much more.

Refund Policy

There are no refunds or reductions of tuition and housing fees due to cancellation, withdrawal, absence or dismissal within 30 days of the start date of the term. All schedule changes, including dropping/adding classes must be done 3 days before the start of the term in order to qualify for a refund. There are no tuition refunds for dropping out of the program or dropping individual courses after arrival in London.
